Miller Principal of junior High School Mr. Louis Mannen, vice-principal of junior High School, eighth and ninth grades, formerly taught shop and algebra. He taught in Belton, Missouri, before coming into the Independence system. Like the principal, the vice-principal of the school has a busy day. His work includes enrolling new students, counseling students who have problems and various other phases of school work too numer- ous to list. When asked to comment about his work, he re- plied, It is interesting and challenging. 18... Echoes of the year just past will tell the story of the principal, Mr. Miller, and the part he played in the lives of over one-thousand eighth and ninth grade boys and girls. Each day of the year, they saw him moving among them in a friendly way as he coordinated the many classes, courses, and sched- ules so as to bring the most good to each individual student. Mr. Miller's philosophy, that the school is for the students, is exemplified in his work with them. His day is filled and overflowing, but he always has time to say a friendly, Hello, Students will re- member the regular morning announcements over the inter-com from their principal who was never to busy to take time for the little things that meant so much to them at the time. They will recall that he was always on hand to preside at assemblies which were looked-forward-to events for them. A very active worker in community projects, Mr. Miller is a leading personality in the Wagon Wheel District of Boy Scouts. Before becoming principal of junior High Schoolg he was an algebra teacher of this school. Memories of 1956 might be summed up in the words of a freshman student, Our pi-incipal's a grand person.
