JUNIQR HIGH SCHOOL Included in this book are grades seven, eight, and nine. The eighth grade and fresh- man classes occupied the building which has long been known as junior High School. The location of its campus at the intersec- tion of Truman Road, Maple Avenue, and Pleasant Strets, is close to the main busi- ness section of the city of Independence. The seventh grade was housed in a new building which will eventually become a part of a new high school unit. This loca- tion was in the northeast section of the city at Nickell and Noland. ., was V. Dr. Plucker, the superintendent of the Independ- ence school system, has his office in the junior High building. As he goes about the daily routine of his busy schedule, he often meets eighth and ninth grade students on the campus and in the halls. The wish he expressed in his welcome speech to the student body at the first assembly of the school term, to know each boy and girl, or at least to speak to each one as they met, was fulfilled at every oppor- tunity during the year. These personal, friendly greetings from the superintendent are pleasant mem- ories of the past year to the students. A native of the state of South Dakota, Dr. Plucker has been with the Independence schools for five years. Dr. Guy Carter Administrative Assistant , Dr. O. L. Plucker Superintendent Mrs. Pauline Brown Secretary to the Superintendent Dr. Guy Carter, administrative assistant, came into the system last year, and he also has made friends among the students of junior High School. Dr. Car- ter had fifteen years of school experience as teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent before he as- sumed his duties here. He earned his Doctor's De- gree at the state university at Columbia, Missouri
