Mr. Harry Dreifus Our football and basketball coach at Junior High also doubles as an eighth grade history teacher. He fulfilled his childhood ambition of being a coach, but his pet peeve is athletes who lack pep and hustle. He thinks Junior High students are full of pep. Mrs. Eugenia Shull Orrick, Missouri is the birthplace of Mrs. Eugenia Shull, Home Room 212, although Independence is her home town. Her childhood ambition was to become s teacher. This she fulfilled after attending Kansas City Univer- sity, Warrensburg State College, and Missouri University. She likes birds for pets. Mrs. Frank J. Lewis Independence is the home town of Mrs. Frank J. Lewis, Home Room 213, who was born ln Lafayette County, Missouri. She fulfilled her childhood ambition to become a teacher after attending Central Missouri State College, Warrensburg, and the University of Missouri. Mis! lreda Hinnah The challenge that she receives as a teacher of boys and girls is the most in- teresting experlence of Miss Freda Hlnnah, Home Room 209. She was born in Gilliam, Missouri which is her home town. She attend- ed Central Missouri State College that she might fulfill her childhood ambition to be- come a teacher. A favorite aunt was her childhood idol. 'Caesar' is her choice comic strip and she likes the song WToo Late Now'. She has a pet, 'Poochie', s Branch Water dog, whose first home was in Nebraska. Miss Hinnah enjoys shows, television and reading. Mr. louis A. Mannen Born aid reared in Montrose, Missouri, was Mr. Mannen, Home Room Shop. He received his education at Colorado State College and Central Missouri State College, warrensburg, Missouri. His favorite colors are brown, tan, and green. Steak is his choice in food. Favorite entertainments are square dancing, traveling, and crafts. lisa Helen Rucker Born in Saline County, Missouri, Miss Rucker, Home Room 219, calls Independence her home town. Colleges were listed as Central State at warrensburg, and Universi- ties of Missouri, Wyoming, and Denver. To be a librarian was her childhood am- bition, and she remembers as full of inter- esting experiences, her teaching in a one- room rural school at the age of seventeen. Miss Rucker likes traveling, 'Blondlen, and Doublemint gum. Mr. Donald Welborn Loud noise is the pet peeve of Mr. wel- born, band and orchestra teacher in room 100. Mr. Welborn's favorites include swimming, reading, and music. He likes attending motion pictures. Mr. Loren McConnell Born in Halfway,Oregon, Mr. McConnell, director of beginning band, had a childhood ambition nto be a six-footeru. His home town is Independence, Mo. He received his college background at C.M.S.C., Warrensburg, Mo.and the University of Michigan. Watching the de- velopment of a good student has been his most interesting experience. His childhood idol was Douglas Fairbanks, Senior. He likes the comic strip UPogoU and the song, nOh, How I Hate to Get Up in the Morningn., Talking is his favorite entertainment. He owns several pets: a dog, a parakeet, a turtle, and some tropical fish. Mr. James R. Stillings Here is a man who probably has a thought in common with the students because his most interesting experiences during his teaching career have been his vacations. Valley City, North Dakota is the birthplace and home town of Mr. Stillings, Home Room 218. He received his college education at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota, and the University of Minnesota. Evidently, Mr. Stillings didn't have much pull because he did not realize his childhood ambition to become a dentidt. His idol as a child was Bob Feller. He likes any kind of gum and uTerry and the Piratesn is his favorite comic. Mr. Stillings likes music and sports for entertainment. HClair de Lumen is his favorite song. Miss. Sally Cutler Home Room 328 is happy to present Miss Cutler, now of Independence. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, and received her college education at the University of Missouri. Clark Gable was her childhood idol and she aspired to be an artist. when the hall monitors mistake her for one of the students of the school, Miss Cutler finds it amusing. Queried about comics and songs, she listed 'Dagwoodn and nSt. George and the Dragonetn. For entertainment, this popular art teacher likes to swim and fish. She, owns a Cocker Spaniel, and says she prefers Wrig1ey's Spearmint when interested in gum. Mr. Sidney Willis who is the teacher whose childhood am- bition was to be President of the United States? lt's no other than Mr. Willis, math- ematics teacher in Room 321. He was born in Corder, Missouri, but his home town is Indep- endence. He received his college education at Central Missouri State College, and Kansas University. His favorite comic strip is uB1ondieH and for songs, he chooses, HYou, You, Yduu. Mr. Willis has no pets. Miss Pat Dalton Miss Pat Dalton, born in Chickasha, Ok- lahome, received her college education at Southwest Missouri State College, Spring- field, Missouri. Her home town is Carthage, Missouri. She claims that lack of artistic ability kept her from fulfilling her child- hood ambition to draw for salt Disney. Will Rogers was her childhood idol. She likes the comic strip WHenryW. Her favorite song changes with her moods. Many types of enter- tainment vie for top honors. She likes Doublemint chewing gum. Mrs. Alice Tlgner Y At the head of the long line of children with excuses, is our attendance secretary, Mrs. Alice Tigner. hrs. Tigner was born in Mayview, Missouri. Her childhood ambition was to travel and to go places. Her favorite comic strip is 'Gasoline Alley'. Playing bridge, in leisure time, and seeing, are her hobbies. hrs. Tigner especially likes the color blue and enjoys watching football games. Miss Virginia Morford The busy secretary to our principal is Miss Morford. Born and reared in Independ- ence, she received her college education at Graceland College, Ismoni, Iowa. Her child- hood ambition was to be a secretary, and that she is now, and a very good one, too. About comics, she answered, nNo time for themn. Her favorite song is HBlue Moonu and her choice' of entertainment is,nA good ice-skating show? 15

Miss Grace Pulliam The understanding teacher in room 211 is Miss Grace E. Pulliam. Miss Pulliam was born in Greene County, Tennessee and grew up in Lathrop, Missouri. She attended Central Miss- ouri State College at warrensburg and the University of Michigan. The most interesting experience she has had during her teaching career, says Miss Pulliam, is the time that she was giving a play where the shortage of girls made lt necessary for a boyhto play a glrl's part. The boy played the part so well that he fooled the audience. Miss Pull1sm's favorite comic strip is 'Dagwood and Blondie' and the entertainment she most enjoys ls read ing and listening to good music. Her favorite S006 is H hYmn,,HOn Love That will Not Let Me Go'. As for chewing gum, Miss Pulliam tells us her favorite is that in the waste basket. To be a violinist was Miss Pulllam's child- hood ambition, and as for a childhood idol, Miss Pulliam could only say, 'Ah, memory plays the traltorl' Mrs. Lola Stanley Central Missouri State Teachers' College in Larrensburg, and Kansas City University have given us another very fine teacher, Mrs. Lola Stanley, Home Room 103. Independence, Missouri, her birthplace, is also her home town. Her love of music prompted her child- hood ambition to become a violinist, and fur- nishes her favorite entertainment: She par- ticularily likes the song, 'Evening Star'. 'Dagwood' is the comic strip character Mrs. Stanley enjoys most. She prefers Spearmint gum. Miss Hester E. Preston Miss Hester Preston, Home Room 331, was born in El Reno, Oklahoma, but her home town is Independence. She received her collage education at Peabody College, Nash- ville, Tennessee and Missouri University. 'Dogwood' is Miss Preston's favorite comic strip character. She has a cat for a pet and her favorite entertainment is plays on the legitimate stage. Miss Ethel Erickson Born and reared in Buffalo, Missouri is the teacher in Home Room 2lL, Miss Erickson. Her childhood ambition was to be a teacher and she well fulfilled it. She received her college education at Southwest Missouri State College, Springfield, Missouri, and enjoys traveling and watching television. Her fav- orites are 'Dagwood and Blondle', 'White Chrlstmas', and Wrlgley's Doublemint' gum. She has no pets. Miss Grace Rowe The Junior High School speech arts teacher, Miss Grace Rowe, was born in Kirks- vllle, Missouri. Klrksville State College, Kansas City University, Kansas University, Kansas City Teachers' College, and North- western University have, at one time or an- other, had Miss Rowe as a student. She re- ceived her B.S. degree at Kansas City Teach- ers' College and her Master of Arts degree at Northwestern Unlverslty.,ToMbecome an actress was Miss Rowe's childhood ambition, Wallace Reid was her childhood idol, and her favorite entertainment is the theater. Watching her speech students grow from day to day and working on plays and programs with them, is Miss Rowe's most interesting experience. Her favorite song is 'The Last Time I Saw Paris'. 'Dick Tracy' and 'King Aroo' are her favorite comic strips. Dentyne ls the gum she most prefers, lf any. IL Mrs. Mitzi Overman Mrs. Mitzi Overman teaches in room 109. She was horn in Kansas City, Kansas, but her home town is Independence, Missouri. Mrs. 0verman's childhood ambition, to graduate, is one which most of the students of today hope to achieve. Shirley Temple was her childhood idol. She finds that each day's activities add to the interesting experiences of her teaching career. 'Pogo' ranks as her favor- ite comic strip, and she has goldfish for pets. For entertainment she llkes to watch football games at M.U. and 'Mr. Peepers' on T.V. Her favorite song is 'I'm Whlking Be- hind You', dedicated to ninth grade boys on' test day. Miss Pauline Nicholls Miss Pauline Nicholls, Home Room 323, re- ceived her college education at Kansas City Teachers' College and Missouri University. She was born in Jefferson City, Missouri but Inde- pendence has been her home town since the age of three. Her favorite comic character is ,, 'Dennis the Menace' and 'White Christmas' is her favorite song. A good movie leads her list for entertainment. She will accept any kind of gum but bubble gum. Miss Harriet Weatherford Home Room 104 claims Miss Harriet Weath- erford as a very capable algebra teacher. She was born and reared ln Independence, Missouri Miss Weatherford received her college educat- lon at Central Missouri State College in War- rensburg and Columbia University in New York City, thereby attaining her childhood ambit- ion. The most interesting experience of her teaching career was in trying to understand Mexican children who could not speak English, while teaching the first grade at Courtney, Missouri. She likes good plays and pictures for entertainment and her favorite 30mg is 'Star DuSt'. Mr. Charles W. Vanderlinden Some facts would lead us to believe that Mr. Vanderlinden, science teacher in room 217 likes animals. He has a dogg 'Caesar' is his favorite comic stripg his most interesting ex- perience while teaching was playing in a don- key basketball game. Tokbe a bIg'game hunterw was Mr. Vanderllnden's childhood ambition. Sedalia, Missouri is his hometown, but Mr. Vanderllnden was born in Desdemonia, Texas. His favorite entertainment is outdoor sports, favorite song 'Dark Eyes'.' Mrs. Louanna O'Kell 'The year I taught first grade' is the most interesting experience of Mrs. louanna 0'Kell, Home Room 329. She was born in Mays- vllle, Missouri, but says her hometowns are too numerous to name. Her college education was received at Kansas City Junior College and Central Missouri State College, Warrens- burg, Missouri. when asked what her child- hood ambition was she replied, 'I wasn't am- bitious'. Her childhood idol was her first grade teacher, Miss Elizabeth Browning at Lee's Summit, Missouri. Her favorites are 'Dagwood and Blond1e', 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart', and 'Dentyne' chewing gum. Miss Lou Rette Mothershead Fishing is the favorite entertainment of Miss Mothershead, Home Room 102. She was born in Chelsea, Oklahoma, but claims Parkville, Missouri her home town. To be a teacher, was her childhood ambition which she is success- fully fulfilling. Her college education was received at Central Missouri State College, Warrensburg, Missouri. She has no pets and her favorites are 'Dagwood and Blondie', 'You were Meant for Me', and Juicy Fruit chewing gum. When asked what her mostinteresting ex- perience was she replied, 'It's a secret, I can't tellll'
