Staff members ofthe Communico take great pleas- ure in recoginizing Miss Lora Todd, who has com- pleted forty-four years in teaching. She came to Inde- pendence in 1929 and has served in the school system continuously except for two and one-half years while she served in the Red Cross during World War II. Her former students return each year to thank uMiss Englishw for preparing them for success in senior col- leges. IC.IC's English department is losing a truly great teacher and chairman as she retires. QW e ica fion -msg Probably very few people are aware of the helping hand quietly extended to students by Miss Mary Self, college bookstore manager. Many students have received moral support, social acceptance and financial help through Miss Selfls efforts, yet these efforts have been made so unobtru- sively that many of her colleagues were unaware of her ac- tivities. Miss Self retires this year, and her tremendous res- ponsibilities will have to find new shoulders on which to rest.
