study skills. . Best in the State of Kansasn describes the study skills laboratory at ICJC. Students may improve read- ing speed and comprehension, build their vocabulary, learn to skim and scan for facts, and build skill in at- tacking science and mathematics assignments. Listen- ing and reading are taught by use ofa tape recorder as well as printed material. The student must listen for a particular piece of information and then read for the facts. Included in the equipment is a reading eye cam- era which makes it possible to determine how much a reader back tracks in his reading. The instructor devel- ops and interprets the Film. An early diagnostic test enables the instructor to determine the appropriate individual rate and level of vocabulary for each stu- dent's attack. Library facilities are being enlarged to accomodate the 4,000 books to be added during this year. 1500 were added to the 11,398 volumes already in the li- brary to bring the total to 12,898. Students are privi- leged to pass freely among the open shelves to seek what they wish to use. Students enrolled in Oflice Techniques are privi- leged to have the latest and best of equipment at their Fingertips. New IBM Selectric typewriters make possi- ble the teaching of the key punch skills because of a special keyboard. Working at their individual speeds and reading levels, these students are thrilled by their progress. Each booth is equipped for several activi- ties. Students must enroll in ei- ther Developmen- tal Reading or English Composi- tion lb and 2b to havethistraining available,

Printing techniques are taught in one of the most modern of the plants found in any junior college. This year a new offset press was added to bring the equipment up to date. A large flat hed press is used to print the newspapers while stationery, offiee forms, and other publications are printed either on the two offsets or the automatic' eylinder press. Students are given practical experience in all phases of printing.
