Mgwpmgw TRIKE up the band! Directed by Max I. Barker and managed by the governing board, which consists ot Grace Anne Chamberlain, president: Morris Lenz, vice- president, Herbert lones, managerg Barbara Kemmerer, secretary: and Marvin Hayward, librarian, the band has accomplished a great deal this past year and is ever looking forward to bigger achievements. An innovation this year was a good will tour March 25 to several Northeast lowa towns. From a repertoire ot about thirty selections, the band presented an hour con- cert ot numbers chosen by the band director of the school visited, Those planning to enter contests traveled to Earlville March l to attend a clinic at which Mr. Ralph Pronk ot West Vlfaterloo acted as critic. The whole band went to Fay- ette for a concert and criticisms March 20, and solos and ensembles performed at the all-county music festival held here March 29, with Mr. Pronk again serving as critic. Out of eighteen events entered in the preestate contest at Vinton April 5, ten won a superior and seven an excellent rating. Soloists who made a first rating were Herbert lones, French horn, Barbara Kem- merer, flute and piccolop Helen Tidball, alto clarinet. Bill Klotzbach and Morris Lenz ranked excellent on the cornet and baritone. Participating in the winning groups were Bill Klotzbach, Dale Stupp, Norman Hovey, Herbert Iones, Helen Harrington, Robert Lynch, Shirley Tegen, Barbara Kem-

Two concerts were presented to iieor-corczcity hcuses November 26 ond Morch ll. We got four new field drums ond two Scotch bosses, besides or bfflot tubo ond o tenor sox. We orqonized three novelty groups' the Gerrnon Bond, the Booster Bond, ond the Mountaineer Bond, scripts for which were written by Mr. Borker. 'l'hot's rioht, strike up the Bond! Crchestro LSC under Mox Borlcer's direction is the orchestro, which wos octive os on cr- oonizotion only second semester. This group furnished music for oll ploys ond, incidentolly, bod rinqside seorts to them. With the vocol groups it presented cr successful concert April 29. A couple of hot violinists, Richard Miller ond Wilbur Nielsen, were members of the Mountaineer Bond. President Dorothy Bunqe, Vice-President Wilbur Nielsen, ond Secretory Corole Cole dre the officers.
