'i..'- TH E VVAPSIE Class Poem It has come, the time for parting, And how strange it seems to me, That the work and worry is over, And we're the Seniors of '23. We areientering now the pathway That leads to the cares of life, With youth's happy hopes and ambitions Calling us on to the strife Here's hoping that joy and not sorrow Will be our portion out there, And that acts of love and kindness, We will scatter everywhere. We must live as common people, And make our lives worth while, No matter how blue the day seems We must never forget to smile. Tho our thoughts are all for the future, In memory we'll still hold dear The happy days spent in I. H. S. As they passed so swiftly each year We've made a brilliant record, For our colors of orange and black, But the time has come, too soon it seems, . And we're not coming back. PROPHE C Y Once upon a time there was an Educated Mouse who lived in the Faculty Corner And this is what she is said to have heard at Teacher's Meeting one Tuesday night. The presiding officer, Mr. Roberts, rapping on the table with a practised hand. said, The meeting will please come to order. The subject for the evening's discussion is the Intelligence Test lately perpetrated by Prof. Pauseanponder as applied to the Senior Class of the Independence High School. Intelligence Test! On the Seniors! rose a babel of voices Must they pass to graduate? It isn't fair! It shouldn't be allowed! Let us have your undivided attention, reproved the chairman, This Intel- ligence Test is a very simple process designed for the purpose of foretelling the fates of the Senior Classmenf' Here a groan arose, You know' it is the custom of this school to allow no class to graduate without having formed some adequate idea as to how they will succeed in the business world. For the year of nineteen twenty three we have chosen this method. The test applies Coue's well known principle of auto-suggestion on the sub- conscious mind. When the Seniors are prepared for the test they are given paper and pencil and allowed to gaze for a period of fifteen minutes into the Ether of the Future. Thus, unwatched, the subconscious mind registers its thought on the paper. It may be stated that, in order to secure good results, the subject's mind must be quite blank. . I It begins to sound practical as applied to the class of nineteen twenty three remarked Mr. Farris, sarcastically. , Prof. Pauseanponder asks, continued Mr. Roberts, That the teachers co- operate in this wonderful new process by examining the papers and deciding in as brief a statement as possible what is likely to become of each member of our present Senior Class. - It was the following Tuesday that the Class Mouse again took up her position behind the rows of books in the Library. When the meeting had been called to order, the papers were distributed among the several teachers. There ensued a silence so eerie that the Class Mouse shivered in her neat little Russian boots. Mr. Roberts arose and taking out his watch, requested that within a period of five minutes each teacher be able to give a summary of his or her paper. The silence which followed was iirst broken by Miss Wolin's giggle, Oh, Harken ye! was her exclamation, Wesley Towlerton has organized a circus and employed several of our Seniors. Nilo Miller is his chief clown and the success of the season and Helen Wendling. is a tight wire walker. A tight wire walker, echoed Miss Gaffin, How did she ever learn to control her giggling long enough to keep her balance? Q Now that Miss Wolin has uncermoniously opened our quest, said Mr. Roberts, We will continue. Next. With some hesitation-and careful choice of words, Miss Carney proceeded.
