Three weeks of hard practice proved worthy as the Pirates defeated Garden City, the defending state champions, 13-12. This conference winning skein stayed pat until the Pirates met Coffeyville, who were the '56-'57 state champions. Parent's night was also a highlight of the current season. The guests were entertained in the cafeteria following the game . Miss Mary Ann Pedigo was crowned queen in the homecoming game which featured a victory over a strong Hutchinson eleven.
