The girls Varsity Basketball team had an extremely successful 1979-1980 season. Led by seniors Rita Walker and Cassan- dra Spain, the 76'ers compiled an overall record of 19 Wins and 5 losses and cap- tured the North Division title with a perfect 10 win and 0 loss record. By midseason the 76'ers had earned their way to 5th place ranking in the CCS: this ranking stood until the 76'ers lost a cru- cial playoff game in overtime - thus ending an excellent season. Another highlight of the season was the interna- tional game the 76'ers played against an all star team from Australia. The two most outstanding players this year were Rita Walker, averaging 15.9 pts. per game!6 stealsfand 5 assists. Cassandra Spain averaged 15.8 pts. per gamefand 12 rebounds. The other fre- quent starters were senior Cindy San- chezg juniors Cathy Koernke, Lori Rami- rez and Teri Silveriag sophomore Deb- bie Santo, and freshman Bev Chandler. Rounding out the squad were senior Cathy Krygier, and sophomores Carol lshimaru and Tammy Wilke. Post-season honors were awarded to three of the 76'ers: Rita Walker fselected Most Valuable Player of the North Divisionlg Cassandra Spain fNorth Division All-League 1st Teamlg and Debbie Santo received Honorable Mention. FROSH SOPI-l BASKETBALL . X , 4 The 1979-1980 Boys Frosh! Soph Basketball team did an outstanding job. Their season was 20 wins and only 2 losses. They worked together and dis- played fine athletic ability. These young men were the champions of the Del Mar Tournament and were the Co- Champions in the North Divi- sion. The sixers were led by sopho- mores: Mando De La Cruz, Greg Wilkes, Armando Ortez, Chris Carmona, and lerome Oliver. The Freshman leaders were: Dave Gillespie, Vince Calvetti, and Eddie Visperas. We had a great season and it was a lot of fun ,working with this fantastic group of guys. -Coach Wright X 1-Ee ....1!
