TENNIS f. u X .s :if I Jr aqui' ,f Under the tutelage of Coach Passalacqua, this year's Girls' Varsity Tennis Team netted a league record of nine wins and one loss. This winning record put them in a first place tie with Piedmont Hills for the MHL Northern Division Cham- pionship. Unfortunately, the fighting sixers lost a close match to a strong Pirate squad in a playoff to determine a clear winner for the North. Guiding the team throughout the season were four seniors: Kim Munoz, Joyce Chew, Lee Ann Yasukawa, and Babette Bolivar. Supporting them were a cast of two juniors and plenty of sophomores, including Lisa Costello, Imelda Morales, Suzy Murray, julie Kadonaga, Carol Ishimura, and Kathy Koga. Although Coach Passalaqua is losing four well-seasoned vet- erans, he is still very optimistic concerning next year's team and another winning season. Thank- you Coach Passalaqua for all of your time and patience during our 1979-1980 season. As seniors we say goodbye and the remaining members of the team say see ya' next year. The Tennis Team 1st row: Susie Young, julie Kadonaga, Carol Ishamaru, Leorin Visico, lUne Tanaka, Kathy Koga. 2nd row: Quisol, Suzanne Murray, Babette Bolivar, Chris Lanier, Elaine Miyasaki, Francis Gorospe. 3rd row: Coach Passalaqua,Lisa Costello, Ann Yamada, Lee Ann Yasakawa, Joyce Chiu, Kim Munoz, lmelda Marales. .33 I i C gf. if mf. j . 190 Girls Tennis 'k'Ir'k'k

They won the M.H.A.L. North Division title with a record of 9 wins and 1 loss. These young athletes have every right to be as proud of themselves as much as I am proud of them. Next year we hope to do even better with a 10-O record. I would like to say good-bye to all of the departing seniors, they will surely be missed. - Coach Sue Barthol 'k'ki k luniorVarsityVoIIeyball 189

Although a slow start in preseason made things a little discouraging, the team began to jell just in time for league play. They proceeded to roll over opponents as they made it through the season with a 10-0 record and moved into the MHAL championship game against Santa Teresa. This team was determined to win, they had lost the MHAL last year to Mr. Pleasant, so this year, sure enough they came through with a 5-3 victory to cap- ture the title. Moving on into the CCS play offs, the team calmly disposed the first team, Leland 2-1 and then Branham 2-1, which advanced them into the semi- finals for the CCS title Senior, all- league forward Dave Hendrickx was top scorer with 20 goals, while Ir. Frank VDBH, with 18 goals, directed the attack. The defense, which turned away the opposition time after time again was led by all league goalie Steve Gomes. Providing his assistance were all-league fullbacks Rob Moreland and Pieter VDBH. All in all, I must say that this was a superb team and a fantastic year. All-league selections were: First team: Rob Moreland Frank Van den Brand- Horninge Pieter Van den Brand- Horninge Dave Hendrickx Manual Cioulart Second team: Steve Gomes Steve O'Leary Paul Monteiro Honorable Mentions: Paul Lara Bernard Salas Frank Rancadore Most Valuable Player Frank Van den Brand- Horninge 'k'k'k'k BoysSoccer 191
