FRCDSI-VSOPI-l FOGTBALL An unbeaten streak of eight straight games and a M.H.A.L. North Division Co- Championship highlighted the 1979 Inde- pendence Frosh!Soph Football season. The long grueling hours of hard work paid off as the disciplined sixer attack rolled over opponent after opponent in route to a 7-1-1 record. After dropping a hard fought contest to a tough Salinas junior Varsity Squad, the six- ers were never to taste defeat again. High- lighting their victories were wins over a good junior Varsity team from Cupertino, South Division Co-Champ Santa Teresa, and last year's North Division Champion Milpitas. Leading the sixer offense which averaged over 16 points per game were, Quarter- back Dino Vargas, Fullbacks Todd Seleski, and Kevin Walker, Tailback jim Reyes, and the brother receiving act of jerome and Carl Oliver. Controlling the trenches were Steve Wolford, joe Glenn, joe Nocewon- ger, Ken james, Tim Caruso, and Monte VValler. The sixer Dooms Day Defense was the best in the league in points allowed, giv- ing up an average of less than 7 points a game. Doing the top job up front were Todd Lundberg james, Vance Minnis and Chris Carmona. Plugging holes from their Iinebacking spots were Glenn, Selski. Wolford, and Charlie Boom Boom Sher- rill. Running the airways were defensive backs j. Oliver, Serame, Orosco, and Adams. Most importantly, this year's Frosh!Soph squad possessed a spirit of pride and determination all season long. This dedi- cation to excellence has become the sym- bol of sixer football and the reason for our success. Great Year Sixers!!! -Coach Black US 180 Frosh!SophFootbaII 'k'k'k'k

SWIMMING The opening of the IHS pools proved enough incentive for sixer swimmers to win the North Division MHAL. The girls had an undefeated record of 4-0 in divi- sional play and an overall record of 7-2. Although many outstanding perform- ances took place throughout the sea- son, senior Cindy Brisbin proved to be the most consistent. Cindy was unde- feated in the MHAL and set school records in four events. Cindy also led the squad at CCS by placing second in the 100 yard Backstroke and eleventh in the 200 individual medley. These accomplishments earned Cindy All- American consideration. Other outstanding performances came from Stephanie Shance, jamie Unwin, Karen Brown, Cynthia Hartly, Zona Van- belderen, Kathy VanZant, April Mad- den, and Launna Staton all of whom qualified of CCS. School awards were earned by: Cindy Brisbin QMVP - swimmingl, Sandy MacNeiI lcoaches awardl and laenella Leffler QMVP - divingl. - Coach Taylor We would like to thank Mr. Quick and Richard Cheffer for their personal time in helping with the diving team.
