FRHNCCSJTFATMS Yearbook 1979 - Independence High School becomes well known in man areas. This year has seen Independence develop matu- rity. The student body came in September ready to go to work and we have seen a eat educational year. Both the quality 0? the staff and student body has been demon- strated b the advanced courses offered and filled andy by the performance of the student body in areas of academic competition. The fantastic Independence 76'er Cavalry Marching Band has spread its fame across radio, television and the newspapers through the New York Macy's Parade and by captur- ing Music Bowl iil. They will continue to march across the United States to set an example of high quality for our country in the music area. The theatre has shown the area and state how to cope with financial ressure and at the same time, come up witli a uality pro- gram. The plans for developing flue Summer heatre programs through theatre fund raising has been an admirable project. Inde endence has done exce tionally well in the field of athletics as well, fielding win- ning teams and developing the talents of our outstanding athletes. It is difficult to always be the team that others must try to beat to win a cham ionship, but our athletic staff has adjustedp to that situation well. It says a lot about our school to have hosted the State Wrestlin Meet as well as to be the home of the San .Pose State Spartan basketball team. With the completion of the swimmin com- plex, Independence will soon be a famous aquatics center too. It is with a full heart that I wish the seniors goodbye. You have led the school well and I trust you will remember your years here with fond memories. For those who look for- ward to one or more years at Independence, each year will add to the stature and reputa- tion of the school - how will you contribute and be part of it? Guy C. Klitgaard Principal ff PRINCIPAIS GQY Klitgaard Mel Goertz PFIHCIP31 Assistant to the Principal D311 011132 Arlene Shindledecker A-P-A Assistant to the Principal l A ..,, fa s., -Wig, l TO THE AMERICAN - 1979 Independence, like all schools, has many images which it pi jects. Of these, the one most often thought of in years come is that image reflected through the school's yearboo There is little doubt that the 1979 American will represe, the best of what is Independence. The students, staff, pr grams and activities which make up our school are things which we are all proud, and which can be captured for z time only through the pages of a yearbook such as this. l proud of your accomplishment as a yearbook staff g be prou of your years at Independence, be proud of yourself ai what you can do with the future, but most of all be prou because we are proud of you. Best wishes for a very succes ful and happy life. Mel Goertz Assistant to the Principal
