Thomas Jefferson was born at Shadwell, VA, on April 13, 1743. Jef- ferson became one of the best educated Americans of his time. At the age of 17 he entered the College of William and Mary, where he got exciting first glimpses of The expansion of science, and of the system of the things in which we are placed. Jefferson became our third president of the United States on Nlarch 4, 1801, in the new national capital Washington, D.C. His inaugural address - a political touchstone for a century or longer - bril- liantly summed up the Republican creed and appealed for the resto- ration of harmony and affection. Jefferson Hall
