ll-IS STAR Tl-IEATPE The independence Star Theatre Cinde- pendence Planetariuml is both a tradi- tional planetarium and a multi-media theatre. Transporting you from pano- ramas of the California coast to the Grand Canyon and then to outer space, the planetarium offers a variety of science and interdisciplinary pro- grams. The planetarium's hyperhem- ispheric construction, unique in the Bay Area, wraps you in space as the sun, moon, and stars surround you. The planetarium opened in the fall of 1977, and is a joint project of East Side Union High School District and San Jose Community College District. It is used for programs by high school and college classes, and the general public. 1 Planetarium

I-I BLJI The school has moved further on its way to completion and full operation. The planetarium has come into its own, all special areas are well equipped except the theatre Cbut what a job they are doingl, and the pools are under con- struction. There are still things to do, but there is nothing to slow down curricular development of student involvement. The community is really into using the campus and facilities with the tull Adult Education Program, Evergreen Valley College, San Jose State University and special programs with a variety of com- munity agencies. This will remain a con- stantly shifting and changing part of Independence. l sincerely believe the student body will look back on 1977-78 as the year we set- tled in at Independence and began to truly explore our potential to serve the community in which we exist. To those of you leaving this year -- good luck in whatever you choose to do. To the rest of the student body - let's face the uncer- tainties ofthe future with the goal of con- tinuing to work toward making Independ- ence the number one high school in the nation. - Guy Klitgaard HH Building
