I I J I Getting involved in the The- atre Dance club gives all students the chance to express themselves cre- atively. The club performed for the Student Body on October 25. They received fantastic compliments for their outstanding perform- ance. ln February they per- formed for the public. This was a great show because they all put a lot of time and effort into practice ses- sions. This year's members include the Advisor, Ms. Amable, President, Renea Shelton, Vice-President, Zeke Perez, Treasurer, Carmen Kennedy, Secre- tary, Ann Richner, and Publicity, Toni Brown and DianeVelez. The Chicano Student Union is a club which unites Chi- canos and Chicanas on the IHS campus. The club emphasizes student pride in themselves, their history and the Chicano culture. Some of the activities and events include the celebra- tion of the 16th of Septem- ber. Mexico's Independ- ence Day, the 5th of May, which was celebrated by hosting a banquet, the crowning of the Cinco de Mayo Queen and a dance. They also sponsored a par- ent night and gave scholar- ships. Faculty Advisors are: Ms. Saavedra, Mr. Castro, Mr. Duran, Mr. Ortega, Mr. Medal, Mr. Ordaz, Mrs. DeAztlan, Mr. Cadena and Mr. Renteria. Officers are: President, Vickey Lerma, Vice-Presi- dent, Gina Serrano, Secre- tary, Maryellen Sanchez, and Sergeant of Arms, Cecilia Torres and Gloria Menchaca. Clubs

The purpose of the Aero- nautics Club is to familiar- ize its members with the machinery used for flying and flight itself. The club has various fund raising activities and field trips planned for this year. One of their goals is to charter a plane bound for Disneyland sometime in May. Advisor: Mr. Dave Cadena The Filipino Club seeks to promote cultural pride among Filipinos, share the Filipino culture with the larger community, and address the educational and social needs of Filipino students at Independence High School. It is the cIub's hope that our activities will unite Filipinos and gener- ate a mutual understand- ing with the school's other cultural groups.
