They met every Thursday and played chess. And with more experienicie neilt year they hope to hold tournaments against other schools.

To the right: the Chairmen Committee lead the Black students throughout the year.

' nm The Chicano Student Union was lead this year by President, Gilbert Fuentes, Vice President Becky Escalantes, Secretary Imelda Farias, Treasurer Maria Barrera, Sargeant Celica Torres and also Sargeant- At-Arms Joe Gomez. The Chicano Student Union Of Independence High School is an excellent program designed to unite all chicanos of l.H.S. They raised money for scholarships, help any member with school matters and basically help provide a feeling of togetherness among the club. They have seven advisors, Mr. Castro, Mr. Ordaz, Mr. Renteria, Mr. Echandia, Ms. Russell, Mr. Cadena and Ms. Chavez.
