varsity soccer The I976-77 Independence Varsity Soccer Team had a very successful season. The 76ers started the season with four SHUT-OUTS. Joe Falcas scored our first goal of the season against Bellar- mine and went on to lead the team in total goals scored with l9l goals. In a close second was Sam McHenry with i8l goals. Our forwards were superbly assisted by the fine play-making skills of our halfbacks Keith Marin, Cele Moctezuma, Marc Serna, and Dean Marvin. Our defense was anchored by goalie Domenic Rancadore who allowed less than one goal per game along with excellent defensive skills at the fullbacks Craig Choate, Mike Lovelace and Ray Salinas. We completed the season by placing third in the M.H.A.L. with the record of 9-3. Heffner var ity baseball The Varsity Baseball team was led by pitchers F. Wilczewski, E. Espinoza, V. Porrovechio, and L. Heffner. M. Bravo and L. Rodriguez shared the catching chores. The 76er infield was nearly spot- less with K. Williams, M. Menacho, A. Gallo, A. Chavira, and R. Salazar play- ing the inner defense. M. Serna, J. Sine- gal, L. Hover, M. Rany, and D. DeVera were the last line of defense. The 76ers although a young team, bat- tled it out with Ayer and Overfelt for the division championship.
