varsity basketball The 1976-77 Seventy Sixer basketball team con- cluded its fist season with a 2 win-22 loss record. The team was made up of one sophomore and eleven iuniors. - As the season progressed the young sixers improved with each game, threatening to upset many of the finer teams in the league. The team was led by high scorers Mike Menacho and Albert Gallo and rebounders Tim Eneshenko, Derrick Smith, Ron Taylor, Chris Yamashita, and Kereshawn Hardy. With these returning lettermen coming backunext year the T977-78 sixers should do very well. Wx? Q 6. N A ll I my ff Q -X Wi . L, is - Top Row, L-R: R. Taylor, P. Guinn, T. Eneshenko, K. Hardy, D. I j,,,.,.-.., .. frosh-soph Though not a successful season in terms of league and overall records l3-7 and 5-l 5l, it was one that brought several good experiences to the players and team managers. Their dedication, discipline, and determination were acknowledged by Coach Steve Stearns at the end of the season. After potential high scorer Keith Miyamoto was put out of the season with a broken ankle, freshman guard Glen Vetter and sophomore forward Menon Dela Cruz took over the bulk of the scoring. Although Dela Cruz ended the season as the team's high scorer, it was actually freshman forward Ernie Arra- naga who carried the scoring burden at the end of the campaign. Joe Walton was the big rebounder for most of the season receiving great help from Phil Stone and Joe Burt. The playmakers were Gerald lshimara, Collin Miya- saki, Joel Sales, Jose Prado and Al Valdez. Clyde Hermoso, Richard Moreno and Steve Peterson rounded out the squad, and all contributed greatly to the young 76ers' cause. High points of the season were the fine 46-42 victory over then Division-leading James Lick, and the nar- row 63-60 double-overtime defeat to eventual M.H.A.L.
