CAPTAIN STEPHEN RIES COMMANDER PHIBRCN 4 5 F Captain Stephen Hamilton Ries was born in Iowa City, Iowa on January 13, 1945. After enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1963, he went to the Naval Academy and graduated in 1968. He has served on USS HAMMER QDD 7181, USS EVERSOLE QDD 7891, USS KANSAS CITY fAOR 31, USS MANITOWAC KLST 11801, USS SUMPTER QLST 11811, USS LAMOURE COUNTY KLST 11941, USS TRENTON QLPD 141. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal. He and his wife Betty have two daughters, Susan and Amanda.
