A QULJJ The Air Department is the crucial link between those concerned with aviation and those concerned with sailing the ship. Be it the Marines of HMM-266, the SAP detachment ot HC-6 Det ONE, the helicopters of the US Army or other nations, the Air Department stands at the ready to provide. Each man wears a particular color jersey indicating his role in the hazardous yet intricate evolution of flight operations: The YELLOW shirts, the landing signalmen are responsible for the safe movement of all aircraft as well as their launch and recovery. They are assisted by the BLUE Shirts who run the chocks and chains for securing the aircraft, drive tow tractors and operate the aircraft elevators. PURPLE Shirts are worn by the members ofthe Aviation Fuels Crew, responsible for the expeditious fueling and defueling ot aircraft. Overseeing all these operations are the RED Shirts, the Crash and Salvage Crewmen, specially trained to deal with any type of Flight Deck or Hangar Deck emergency. From Primary Flight Control tothe Flight Deck, Hangar Deck, and the JP-5 Pump room, the men ofthe Air Department serve at the call to Fli ght Quarters proud to call themselves Airdales .
