CAPTAIN CHARLES C. SKIP BUCHANAN UNITED STATES NAVY Captain Buchanan is a native of Bradbury Heights, Maryland, and a 1967 graduate ofthe U.S. Naval Academy. Following a tour in USS RADFORD QDD-446l as Assistant Navigator and Assistant ASW Officer, he attended Naval Flight Officer Training, earning his Radar Intercept Officer wings on 4 April 1969. Captain Buchanan has amassed over 4,000 hours of flight time, 320 combat missions, and 1,136 carrier arrested landings in F-4 and F-14 aircraft. Squadron assignments have been with VF-213, VF-121, and VF-211. Other assignments include the Navy War College, three tours in Chief of Naval Operations, Air Warfare Division lN88j, CDClOperations Officer in USS CORAL SEA QCV-431, and Director, Resources Evaluation, on the staff of the Assistant Secretary ofthe Navy lResearch, Development and Acquisitionl. He served as Commanding Officer, VF-151, and Commanding Officer, USS AUSTIN QLPD-4j. Captain Buchanan's awards include the Legion of Merit l2l, Meritorious Service Medal 141, Air Medal 12 individual and 20 StrikelFlightj, Navy Commendation Medal l2l, and Air Force Medal as well as various unit and theater awards. Captain Buchanan is married to the former Christine Schwartz of Fairfax, Virginia. They have two daughters, Meredith and Courtenay, and one son, Ryan. -

CAPTAIN STEPHEN RIES COMMANDER PHIBRCN 4 5 F Captain Stephen Hamilton Ries was born in Iowa City, Iowa on January 13, 1945. After enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1963, he went to the Naval Academy and graduated in 1968. He has served on USS HAMMER QDD 7181, USS EVERSOLE QDD 7891, USS KANSAS CITY fAOR 31, USS MANITOWAC KLST 11801, USS SUMPTER QLST 11811, USS LAMOURE COUNTY KLST 11941, USS TRENTON QLPD 141. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal. He and his wife Betty have two daughters, Susan and Amanda.
