Previous tours of sea duty included Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of Fighter Squadron 143, Commander of Carrier Air Wing Nine, Executive Officer of USS ORISKANY QCVA-34j and Commanding Officer of USS GUADALUPE QAO-325. Upon being relieved as INCHON's Commanding Officer, he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral and assigned to the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
