'NIM-wqaqw... LANGUAGE ARTS . . . English - Journalism - Speech The language arts courses seek to instill in each girl the ability to convey her thoughts effec- tively, through speech and through writing. The study of grammar, punctuation, and composition are considered basic in equipping the student with fluency and coherency in her native language. A thorough-going appreciation of great literature accompanies these studies. English teachers include Sister Aquinas, Sister Luke, Sister Agnes Marie, Mrs. Daugherty. and Mrs. Rex. Mrs. Daugherty also teaches journalism and speech, directing the activities of the speech and drama department of the school and serving as advisor for the school paper. Sister Aquinas' students learned the fine points of grammar and proper expression so well that they won a number of essay contests! The first semester is taken up with a study of literature, while second semester work is concentrated upon the rules of grammar and practice in composition. 8.
