These honors were de- termined by the average of all grades maintained for the four high school years. Amid an April Showers setting carried out with multi- colored umbrellas, senior Judy Serna presid- ed as the reigning Belle of the Ball at the annual Student Council dance, April from 7:30 to 11 p.m. in the I.W.A. cafe- teria. Judy was chosen by a popular vote of the stu- dent body from a field of 21 candidates, Four duch- esses selected to complete the Belle's court were, left to right, senior Mary Alice Berlanga, sophomore Nancy Knox, senior Mary Bee Teasley, and junior Kay Vreeland. Angela was the name given to this car that Mrs. Robert A. Daugherty donated for the team of I.W.A.. the K'Ai1ge1s . Mr Saccomam gave the members of the Glee Club some mstructlons about the varxous numbers they would smg durmg the last three months of school They practlced very dlllgently and were successful at all thelr performances MARCH V IWA Angels wound up the basketball season wlth a vrctory over the Blue Darts from Vxlla Maria in Brownsville on March 22, on Smith Memorial Court at I.W.A. The season's tally showed a total of 275 points to the Angels' credit and a total of 203 points for the opponents.

Lucinda Guzman proudly displayed the two medals she won for typing II and bookkeep- ing during the yearly competition sponsored by the Catholic Business Education Asso- ciation. This year's contest was held in San Antonio, Texas. Five girls from each of the commercial classes of shorthand, bookkeep- ing, typing I, and typing II competed in the contest. Incarnate Word captured first place in the five of the six divisions in the 1956 contest. 1957 competition netted first and second places in all designated sections. This year Incarnate Word captured third place in the contest as a whole. Also placing in the contest were: Marianne Eckenrode, who tied for third place in shorthand I, and Gloria Jean Collier, who placed fourth in typing II. Lucinda also tied for second place in spell- ing and received honorable mention in Catholic Views. APRIL 5 . ,Vi ,I 'ii ' sw gr... Eighth grade girls from the area Catholic schools invaded the campus for the seventh annual Future Freshman Day. The girls were taken on tours of the school, visited classes, and were entertained by the students. Future Freshman Day was spon- sored by the Student Council in order to acquaint the students with Incarnate Word Academy.
