J oyce Marie Sablatura Class Goat ..... .......... V irginia Vatzlavick Senior Class History . . . The Class of '51-THE class of the century---WHY?--Because we're smack in the middle of this hustling 20th century. The year 1951 will not only go down in our history but in the history of the world, for it is a year of crisis and therefore of bold decision. For this reason we appreciate what our parents and the Sisters of the lncarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament have done for us by basing our principles on the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Christian way of life. Four years ago we started out as a very bewildered class of fifty-one scared freshmen. We got a big kick out of our initiation and took it in a way that so characterizes our class-like good sports. The whole year was one excitement after another with new thrills always around the corner. Many of us had been together all through the grammar grades, but we had loads of new entrants from the surrounding districts. It didn't take long for all of us to get acquainted and start the ball rolling. By the time we were sophomores we were taking an active part in everything going on in high school. That year we had three Cheerleaders from our class plus the Cavalier Queen, We still weren't quite used to those horrible mid-term tests, but at least the first shock had worn off. We enviously watched the junors and seniors get ready for the Prom and started counting those long days till we would be seniors. As our junior year rolled around, we were in full swing. Our three Cheerleaders Were back in there rooting with half of the class taking part as members of the Pep Squad. We had our say about running dances, hayrides, and parties at Teen Age and really kept things 'Apoppin'. The Sodality didn't escape either, as we took a leading part in all its activities. We were very proud the day we ordered our senior rings. even though we broke all traditions by neglecting to get junior pins. The main in'erest in our junior year was funf Even govern- ment and geometry didn't stop our good times: in fact, they even added to them. Vile were all in a dither about the Junior-Senior Prom and our Duchesses really did us proud. The end of the year came as a sudden shock with a realization that next year would be It. At last The Big Year . . . The first notable event came to our attention when we walked into the senior room to find three seniors already there-wearing the little black habits of postulants in the Congregation of the lncarnate Vkford and Blessed Sacrament. The next big moment came when we got our rings and realized we were full fledged seniors. However, the Korean situation cast a gloom over our optimism, and all of the boys' being draxfted certainly did not help matters. Another great change took place-a change in high school principals. We did so hate to lose Sister Stanislaus. for she had been our guiding light for so long. Were happy though that Sister Claude took her place. because many of us can remember her from our primer days. The Cavalier Queen Contest. selling year-book ads, the Variety Show, the basketball tournament, and finally and best of all the Senior Prom have kept all of us very busy all year. Our whole year has been one of preparedness for the immediate future. Two more of our seniors chose to stay at l.Vv'.A. That gives us something more to be proud of! As we glance back over our high school years, we find them full of good times and hard workg and as we look into the future, we can not even guess what it may hold for us. Uppermost in our minds, of course, is the world crisis. Our very next thought is that it is our responsibility and duty to build a better world. We believe that with our past achieve- ments and school spirit as a spring-board from which to set out we will lead successful Christian lives. 41.401 q 'a' .M 'WA ' a 1- , Q, ,mx X . , 1 I ,A 4 Ayr, Z ' ff K, 4 My? f - A 4 sv X f N Qfmkxq Z 5 55 ix. vQff? g4'f7,z J. , HX - M . This year Cierry Kelly had the honor to reign over all Home-Coming Festivities. The coronation took place just before the kick-off of the Cavaliers vs. St, Joseph's of Brownsville game on the afternoon of Gctober 25. The duchesses were representatives elected from each class. The princess. Martha Anne Bauer, as well as other attendants, was chosen by Gerry.
