Q - w w Foreword N0 headlines hailed the inauguration of Imperial Schools, no dignitaries of the educational world attended a formal ceremony. There was no cere- mony, no fanfare. Yet in the fall of 1953, near Big Sandy, Texas, an attempt was made to reestablish the pattern for schools of the future. How was this educational system new? In what ways did it differ from the myriads of other public and private schools of the land? Imperial Schools began with a NEW PHILOSOPHY, a philosophy which involved CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and the learning of SELF- CONTROL as the primary objectives. These schools were to Search and to strive toward the TRUTH both in method and in curriculum, and their principles were to be guided by the basis of all true knowledge-the Word of God. Then, as now, Imperial Schools demanded excellence. Students were trained for a -life of SERVICE based not on competition and greed and self-glorifi- cation but on a real outgoing CONCERN FOR OTHERS. This was no attempt to compete with the other educational systems in philosophy, physical facilities, or numbers. The goal was to change lives. Were the objectives too idealistic, too greatly divorced from reality? This TENTH ANNIVERSARY issue of THE DIPLOMAT seeks to prove that lives are being changed. It seeks to show how, with the cooperation of parents, some five hundred students are learning to live clean, wholesome, healthy lives in this age and how they are being trained to lead thousands of others in the World Tomorrow. 6 ,.- ,.,--. Q FACULTY MEETI The importance of proper com- munication between Administra- tive Personnel and Faculty can scarcely be overrated. Weekly in- service meetings give guidance to teachers and serve to unify think- ing and procedure. Individual and group problems become less per- plexing when viewed in this setting, and solutions to problems are achieved more readily. ff M 'H ,iff Mr. and Mrs. Garner Ted Armstrong Mr. and Mrs. Herbert W. Imperial's carefully chosen teachers realize that in training and correct- ing they can be effective only by setting the right example. They are fully cognizant of the importance of academic excellence, but they are also aware of the fact that CHARACTER, not material knowledge or material goods, is the most important considera- tion. Their responsibility is great, truly they must put on the whole armor of God . . . 17 PAUL H. ALEXANDER Social Studies, Physical Education, College Instructor. The steady growth of Imperial's libraries is in- dicative of instructional improvement during the past ten years. Students are motivated to utilize library facilities, which include many audio-visual aids. Educational libraries afford teachers the op- portunity of keeping up with the latest develop- ments in their fields. In every case, attractive furnishings lend an atmosphere which is conducive to good study habits. OPE HOU E One of the most important days in the life of a flrst grader is Open House. They learn that building character and mastering 21 subiect are hard work. They know also the rewards of achievement: they know the feel of success. Because the pre-requisite for success in any endeavor is self-control, every activity is geared for the accomplishment of that goal. The playground, even more than the classroom, becomes a training ground for the building of character. To this end, a third elementary school is scheduled to open on the campus of Ambassador College, Bricket Wfood, England, in October, 1964. fig? -434 '- fs 1 N x iff ada, fi , ma , .1-fxli'-. sr V' X is ,, 'Wg 1 'K 5 gl 2 f '45 4 Q ' ezvfh . The best evidence of this statement is the students themselves, who have been trained for a life of service and of selfless giving. Many are continuing their training at Ambassa- dor Colleges and at other colleges and universities! others have found responsible positions and have established homes Where they are applying the principles they have learned. The 1964 DIPLOMAT is pleased to present a representative group of alumni of Imperial Schools. ref, W Ma ,fs ,QW NK K' X E :Sg t :.,. K I ' .
