To the Students of IMMACULATE HEART HIGH SCHOOL 5515 Franklin Avenue Los Angeles 28, California My dear Young Ladies: Wisdom is a treasured talent that finds expression in the guidance of human life. In its human aspect wisdom has its limitations. However, when it is combined with the gifts of the Holy Spirit wisdom emerges into the limitless area of the supernatural. Consequently it becomes a greater treasure -a treasure which is far beyond the limits of natural wisdom. It is our prayer that the Divine Gifts of Wisdom may be bountiful upon you, the students of Immaculate Heart High School. Faithfully yours in Christ, 1 if X an I- , ,fzzzzff ff' ARCHBISHOP of ! Los Angeles Builders or eternity Mm! Rl.'l't'fL'lIl1 Timolbvy Afdllfliflg. D.D., f.C.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles Most Reverend Alden Bell, D.D Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles Father Peter Caslin, chaplain, teaches junior and .senior religion classes and arts as one of the guid- anre rounselors to the student body, My dear Graduates: For three years you have looked with hopeful, if envious, eyes on graduation ceremonies. The thought of your own day was never far from your mind. Now it is here and with it that which seems inseparable from all endings-the pain of parting. And because, in a sense, graduation is somewhat of an academic wake, a burial of books for many, there is always the search for souvenirs. The COR MARIAE of 1958 will, I am sure, be for you one of your most treasured souvenirs. We hope it will. Through its pages we suggest the sage advice of Polonius to his son: To thine own self be true. Be true to the self that came from the hand of God and mirrors his being and houses His presence and is sanctified by His sacraments, the self that has been formed and fashioned by loving parents and dedicated teachers. To thine own self be true and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man. May you never be false to THE SON OF MAN or His Immaculate Mother. of Zawya, Not only will Immaculate Hear! girls always revere Molher Iiucbaria as the principal u'lJo,w place behind the dexk inspires young women lo avoid eril and do good, bu! also as a warm friend who is inlerexled in every aclizfily, be if danre or drama. f V, . But you must do your part to make it so. You should realize that the root of all modern evils is selfish- ness, which is eating like a cancer at the heart of modern civilization. To help remedy the evils that flow from selfishness you must school your own character to a consistent and persevering practice of generous charity after the pattern of your divine Master and Model. Do you accept this challenge? Sincerely yours in Mary's Heart, 2 ' X I I If I e ic.a..-,.-- Mt ,K Spanish learhers, Sister M, Teresila, left, and Sister M. Dear Seniors: For four years wise architects have been carefully guiding the erection of seven beautiful, strong pillars. They are the foundations for the most magnificent and enduring temple ever made. These seven white columns, leading up to splendor, are the gifts of the Holy Ghost-Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord-and the temple they are supporting is the soul of every graduate of 1958. And now we must leave our architectsg their task is nearing comple- tion. Unafraid of the future, we thank them for helping us lay out our plan of life--for the seven tall, slender columns leading to eternal happiness in His House.
