Brotherhood One can see the love between two brothers having the same parents or having the same race or creed or native birth. It's easy and quite natural for us to have a bond with someone having the same interest and very unnatural for us to share this bond of brotherhood with someone who is not in the same class. As one views the issue of universal brotherhood, one does not have to look far to see the discrimination, the lonelynesstthe wars that are rampant throughout the world, and discover that this is but an idea, a concept that seems to be intangible. Because we believe that this concept is tangible, the Staff of Counsels 1972 has selected Brotherhood as the theme of this yearbook. We would like to re-assert the necessity for a strong belief in the brotherhood of man. People live together-race with race, creed with creed, nation with nation-and try, with varying success, to help each other. But the vigor, the fullheartedness of our effort is not too clearly manifest. ls the poverty of so many of our brothers as inescapable as it seems to those who must endure it? Must hunger be the lot of so many-even in our own richly endowed country? And war, riots, bloodshed and hatred-are these outside the scope of brother- hood? We must assert again the need for a more vital brotherhood. We must listen more fervently to that internal voice which demands that we look upon every human ,person as being worthy of our respect and our love. Only as we look upon every man and love him for the human being that he is, only as we respect him for that touch of the immortal which is implanted in each of us, only then can we engage in truly fraternal work. We pledge ourselves to this renewal of brotherhood with all the moral vigor that God grants to those who do His work.
