We have but to look upward to see, above the horizon of commonplace purpose, the nobler, loftier, worthier motives that urge us on in our quest for immutable values to put mean- ing into our lives and our destinies. A Catholic education has lifted our eyes and our hearts up toward these eternal values. It has pointed out to us the ideals that fash- ion our souls after the image of Christ through the practice of Christian virtues, ideals that instill truth within our minds and equip the hands with useful skills through the challenge of diligent and persistent effort, ideals that foster friendships through the lessons of courtesy and generosity, ideals that build the body and the soul through the disci- pline of genuine sportsmanship. Graduation marks a transition from the school of preparation to the school of life- a transition that involves new interests and experiences. On this new, untrodden road, we need great ideals to light the way and guide us unmistakably to our goal. This we pledge ourselves today: To keep the gaze of our souls fixed upward on these heavenly beacons, to believe in them, and to cherish them always. And as we stand at the cross- roads of the present and the future, we dedi- cate our sincerest endeavor to the fullest possible realization in our lives of these our Vilmarian ideals. loirzffomf jjeag ....... .... 6 23 .Sjmfmf olfmfm am! jacugfy leggioud Organizafiorw anal fzofbcfa flfL6!8lfLf ......... 24 89 .gzniom 7!lm!ercKa55men CIILJ sgiblwej rie1fLaL5Aqo ,ycfeag ......... 90 95 .gzciaf am! ,fgcfiuifiw 0l t5 .QJQCLK5 ........ 96 103 lg ..f4IfA,Afic .Zuma am! .xdcAieuemenf5 f pzhlua to lllgfbf just one little to cume the darkneyx WIOHO M W 's X b y fmizfl A nd The replica of the miraculous image of Our Lady of Czestochowa adorns the altar in the private chapel of the Holy Father's summer residence at Castel Gandolfo. Dur- ing the current year which marks the three- hundredth anniversary of the momentous consecration of Poland to Mary, we ask her whom we honor under the title of Queen of Poland to spread wide her mantle of pro- tection over His Holiness to shield him from every harm and to assure him the bounty of her favor. To Hi: I-Iolinefr Pope Piur XII, Vicar of Chrirt, We humbly prolfer our tribute of loy- alty and grateful admiration. In the history of our age, he stands the undaunted cham- pion of the highest Christian ideals of peace, unity, and charity for all founded solidly on the principles of justice and respect for hu- man dignity. We pray that God may preserve him in whom the confused world recognizes a leader in its struggle and hope for the rebirth and re-establishment of great ideals among men. flbzhimll fdljgguelfd Great Ideals To Hi: Excellency, the Mor! Rev. jorepb Aloyfim Burke, D.D., we extend this token of deep respect and acknowledgement. As spiritual leader of this diocese, he has dis- tinguished himself in his unabated zeal urg- ing us always to aspire with a holy dis- content to a fuller realization, in every field of work and endeavor, of the highest Cath- olic ideal-a life that is Christ-centered in motive and action. This ideal we promise to make our own, that it may become the guid- ing principle and the activating force in our crusade for Christ. Leaders To Hif Excellency, Ibe Mor! Rev. Leo Richard Smith, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese, we zealously pledge our coopera- tion in upholding the ideals of Christ-like goodness and gentleness which he so ardently seeks to accentuate in the pattern for personal holiness. In our own lives and in the lives of those around us, we will strive to enthrone the spirit of true charity which is the soul of every Christian ideal. Ee Lcalfion N...--ul Chaplain -- The twenty-fifth anniversary of the priest- hood of our esteemed chaplain, the Rev. Anthony Krawczyk, lends a festive note to our final year at the academy and provides a welcome opportunity to vent in jubilee's song our profound gratitude and earnest felicita- tions to this devoted guardian of our ideals. Throughout our student days, we watched with holy admiration the candle of his min- istry glow ever brighter with the large and steady flame of self-dedication. Resplendent with the love of Christ and Mary, its benef- icent rays reached the heart of every Vilmar- ian to sustain its faith, rekindle in it the spark of God's love, to awaken new hope, arouse fresh fervor, and implant stronger ideals. One by one he lit the little candles of our own lives readier, because of his inspiration, to meet the challenge of a militant Christian- ity of our age. Aware of the magnitude of our obligation, we enclose our tribute of thanks in the modest pages of the Immacula- tmz which we gratefully dedicate to our spiritual counsellor and instructor, and our honored jubilarian. Reverend Anthony Krawczyk of Villa Maria Convent and Academy I nrtrurtor in Religion SOLEMN SIGNIFICANCE attends Ring Day cere- monies which, very appropriately, began with the Mass followed by the presentation of class rings to the seniors. The awesome moment is focused on joan Lewandowska as Father Krawczyk places on her Finger the insignia of her school. Standing in the front row, Barbara Adamczalc, Theresa Kobos, Elizabeth . h . Bracikowska, and Barbara Barczykowslca await t err turn with bated breath. FIRST THINGS COME FIRST in a Catholic Curricu- lum which provides for religious instructions to make possible the education of the whole man. In a senior class, Dorothy Resetarits fstandingj, Kath- leen Macey, Esther Kuwik, Rose Kendra, and Mary Ann Osika, listen attentively as Father Krawczyk expounds a truth that governs our relations with God in our everyday living. onglm Lloafalfiona 1-- It is our happy privilege to extend sin- cerest congratulations to Reverend Mother Mary Simplicita, General Superior of the Felician Sisters, on the occasion of the golden anniversary of her religious life. As former president of the academy, she has left stamped upon this institution the mark of her unparalleled zeal in maintaining the highest ideals in Catholic educational traditions. In her present oflice, the candle of her influence throws its beams far and wide to embrace all Felician foundations with the light of her care, her religious fervor, and her own ex- ample of uncompromising idealism. We ask her Divine Spouse to spare for many years the radiance of that flame that it may con' tinue to shine forth with the goodness, understanding, and charity of a heart given completely to God and His work, VERY REVEREND JOTHER MARY SIMPLICITA GENERAL SUPYRIOR OF THE FELICIAN SISTI RS REVEREND MOTHER MARY ANNETTE PROVINCIAL SUPERIOR Prerid 6171 Reverend Mother Mary Annette, provin- cial superior of the Felician Sisters and pres- ident of the academy, holds in our hearts a place of special honor and gratitude. Despite her manifold responsibilities, she finds time to concern herself with our moral and edu- cational standards, with our ambitions, our progress, and our achievements. Glowing with enthusiasm, her life's candle burns bright to dispel the shadows of discourage- ment and to light up new prospects of suc- cess, while it aims high the beams of those lofty ideals we see reflected in her own beautiful way of life. We find no better way to express our grateful love than by catching and carrying away with us her spirit of joyous -if aa ' service. SISTER MARY JOSEPHINE Prirzcipal As principal of the academy for the past two years, Sister Mary Josephine has directed all her efforts and energy to a twofold pur- pose: to improve the appearance of the acad- emy's interior and to reanimate its spirit with a fresh emphasis on Vilmarian ideals. As we walk in the friendly atmosphere of newly- painted rooms and hallways, as we strive each day after the goals set before us, we feel the warmth that radiates from the candle of our principals unstinted devotion to our every good. And as that flame spends itself generously on our behalf, we the graduating class together with our underclassmen bring to Sister Mary Josephine this assurance of our prayerful thanks and appreciation. -- i f.....f M Q, . g M . lf. gs . - t 'ff Family by F0 fer and Sister Mary Josephine presents the Latin trophy to llarlwara Krempa, winner of two gold medals, and Barbara XX'aligora, winner of one gold medal, to total the three needed to make this award for Latin stholarship a permanent possession of the academy, Gloria Kugut lrightj holds the certilicate she has just received in recognition of her contribution to the Annual Anthology of High School Poetry.
