W . f M 2 4-'Q 51+ if 1, tk Q E fb' s o P Q 0 MAKE THE MOST OF PASSING HOURS NEVER SCATTER CTHORNS BUT FLOWERS fl . y OUR years back, we the class of 1,4-1, then as a .group of in- significant and hopeful freshmen, viewed for the first Line, the graduation exercises at Villa Maria. What emotions of Joy .and happiness surged in our hearts, what a thrill of sheer delight bi- swept through us, how eager and hopeful we became that some- day, perhaps in only four years more, we will replace the Sweet Girl Graduate of l38 . Today, already we have merited the name Senior Class of '4l . How great, how intense, our feelings grow as we set about performing the tasks which that title brings upon us. One of the many, and an important one, was the selecting of a motto, appropriate and practical. After due consideration, our decision fell upon -+- Make the Most of Passing Hours Never Scatter 'Thorns but Flowers. As the moments approach to hid our fond adieu to you, our pleasant and dear companions, thoughts of the uncertain-ty of the life ahead well up within our minds. The future, hidden from us by the Will of God, is uncertain. But we must proceed forward to meet it. As a helpful weapon we take the motto of our class, which to us is something throb- bing, vibrant, and alive, to spur us on. The first part 'Gmake the most of passing hours stresses diligence, always, all over, in all things. It emphasizes the responsibility which is ours for the way we utilize time. Everywhere, time is the most valuable factor. Time is not ours to waste and squander, and a true account of how we spend it, will some day be rendered. Furthermore, using time conscientiously will reap us a rich harvest. I must suffer if I lose it, Give an account if I abuse itv. With this is closely linked the other part Mnever scatter thorns hut flowers . What a thought is contained therein! To be considerate where others are thoughtless, to possess patience where some grow angry, to he sympathetic where others are inconsiderate, to be always kind where others are cruel, these are a few of the virtues we must possess in order to get along successfully with others in life. These are the flowers we will have to strew the 'paths of others with. In doing so, may each of us re- tain in our hearts the thoughts contained in our class motto! May they fall on fertile ground to grow into monuments of diligence and good cheer!
