Many years ago two young girls ventured from their home in Cork. Ireland. to a distant country 3,000 miles away. One of the girls, aged seventeen, was Mother Xavier: the new land was America. At the outset of the voyage neither had any knowledge of what the future had in store for them. Coming to a new country presented numer- ous problems which they had to overcome. It was necessary that they adjust to a different way of living and adopt the customs of their new homeland. XVhen Catherine Josephine Blehegan departed from Ireland, she never so much as suspected that she would some day become the Ifoundress of the New jersey Sisters of Charity and their superior for 59 years. Our seniors are also ven- turing into an unknown world with little idea of what will befall them. They have no knowl- edge of the difficulties and problems they must conquer nor of the joy and suffering that will enter their lives. It will be a mystery to them as it was to Mother Xavier. But, like her, they entrust their lives to Cod, leaving the outcome to Him. IDR
