.L I '1- nf ' ff BASEBALL IMMACULATFIS BASEBALL TEAM enjoyed a highly successful season last year, piling up eleven wins against six losses. Highlight of the year was our de- cision over Caldwell, winner of the Greater Newark Tournament. lfVe also racked up two wins against Union Coun- ty's Powerhouse and our arch-rivals, St. Mary's of Elizabeth. The team lost a tough battle to a highly-touted Belleville team, but sprang back with a sizzling trouncing ol' Newark Academy by the toll ol' l9-0. Like so many teams ol' that time we were hit by severe losses. Ours, fortunately. came near the end ol' the season. Lefty Bill Davidson, winner of the Most Valu- able Player Award, was the first to leave, closely followed by his buddy and co- captain, Red Bill Corcoran. The last to leave was Fred Merklin. Prospects of an excellent season this year are likely, with eight letter winners returning. Ray Schultz, Dick Borquist, Pa 0 Fifty-two and Whitey McMahon, take care of the infield, ably assisted by Bob Lubin and Dick Tarrant in the outfield. Two other hold-overs comprising the battery, are Bill Sugrue and Bill Harvey.
