Spiritual Spotlight Glows With Success The basic course in every Catholic school is, of course, Religion. At Immacu- lata, Father James Leah, formerly of Notre Dame University, Sister St, John, and Sister Teresa Carmel teach Religion courses on all four levels. Father Leah also serves as guidance coun.selor for anyone who might seek his aid in determining the choice of a college or career. We all know that Religion should not be studied only as it is applied to the worship of God. Religionis integrated into all things, into every phase of life. All the Brothers at La Salle realize this, and teach it as it was meant to be taught: an impor- tant part in our way of living. Father Leah and Sister St. John add religious decorum to their class. Because of President Kennedy's desire for a physical fitness program for the youth of America, Mrs. Ruth Angleton, with her assistant, Mrs. Isabel Bustamente, have initiated a new schedule of exer- cises and gymnastics into the usual rou- tine of volleyball, basketball, and soft- ball. This, stepped-up plan of physical education has undoubtedly provided many benefits for all who have participated in it. New to the staff of La Salle this year, Dan Coughlin and Gil Verderber are the first full-time athletic directors the school has had. Previously, physical edu- cation and intramural sports were han- dled by the Brothers. Science, Vital Character ln Today's World In the field of Science, Immaculata is fortunate to have two teachers of high merit, Sister Mary Theophane and Mrs. Wilma Knight. ln lmmaculata's short span of existence they have firmly established the Science De- partment, including Chemistry, Biology, and Physics as one of the most important and outstanding in the school. The Science Department of La Salle has yet to be developed and utilized to its desired capacity. Under the supervision of Brother Thomas, Brother Mark, and Brother Ronan, however, swift progress is being made so that every possible technique and facility will be available to the students. This year students have used the Chemis- try and Physics Labs at lmmaculata. lt is hoped, however, that these labs will soon be installed at La Salle. Brother Ronan quizzes students in Science.
