Students Strive For Special Skills The Art Department, under the guidance of Sister Mary Josepha, made considerable contributions to lmmaculata this year. Art students provided beautiful place cards for a benefit card party held early in the year and supplied numerous clever posters announcing the event. The students could always be re- lied upon to furnish whatever deco- rations might be needed for school functions. Home Economics students guided by Sister Mary Maurice learned the fundamentals of cooking and sewing. Sister covered her subjects thoroughly, including meal plan- ning, table setting, garment con- struction, and fabric co-ordination. Also included in this course was a program on nursing and care of the sick. Four heads are better than one Y' Zi. Sister St.lGeorge', Miss Frost, and Mrs. lnzlan decide on booklist for college bound. English Department Sets Fundamental Scene We have been led toward a better under- standing of the mechanics of our own lan- guage as well as a better understanding of our literary culture, both past and present, through the competent skills of Sister St. George, Mrs. lnclan, and Miss Frost. Mrs. ln- clan guides her senior and iunior English classes, while Miss Frost, her sophomore and junior classes, and Sister St. George, her sophomore and freshmen classes. Because many of the students at l.a Salle have recently arrived in Miami, Brother Kevin, Brother James, and Mr. Roger have the task ot teaching not only the regular English courses, but also the fundamentals of the language. The standard English cur- riculum includes both English and world literature, the mechanics of the English language, and grammar. IB Brother Kevin and Brother James are sure the boys will enjoy Milton's Paradise Lost.

Glance At The Past, Glimpse At The Future Father Leah improvises on topic while Sister Paulinis, Mrs. Phelan, and Mrs. Tynan ob- 7 serve. Camera catches class cut-up. Because of its location as gateway to Latin America, Miami has become a focal point ot history in the last decade. With Miami's prominence in international affairs steadily rising, we have the opportunity of witness- ing many important events as they happen. This is fortunate for all Social Studies stu- dents at Immaculata. Guided by their instruc- tors, Father James Leah, Sister Paulinis, Mrs. Consuelo Phelan, and Mrs. Elizabeth Tynan, they are able to obtain first hand knowledge of the events of the world. In order for a student to have a well- rounded education, he must be aware of the history ot our civilization. At LaSalle, Brother Lewis and Brother Alexis have the task of teaching their students the story of our country and their relationship with the other countries of the world. The basic re- quirement for good citizenship is an under- standing of one's own country and its cus- toms, and the Brothers are seeing to it that this is done through the Social Studies pro- gram. 20 Brother Lewis and Brother Alexis add light touch to class
