Aside from the SOUND OF MUSIC, Sister Ann Cecilia, I.H.M., and the de- partment produced an interpretation of Mathilda Rose Mc- Laren's A SONG IS BORN to climax the Christmas prepara- tions and set a joyous mood for the holidays. Earlier in the year, upperclassmen pooled their efforts for a humorous adap- tation of CAMELOT. The enthusiastic reaction the play re- ceived signified hearty frosh approval of their initiation. sm' s Inspired on a cold Christmas Eve, the words Silen, night, holy night flash into the mind of Reverenc Mohr, Robert Neilsen. Mr. and Mrs. Mueller, Gerald Dallessio and Teresa Gill, eat dinner contentedly while their son Henry, Louis Vozza, struggles to forget the church's broken organ.

Senior debaters Chester VanTyne, Michael Sabo, John Huddleston, Mark Kolb, Vincent Ric- cardo, Steven Phillips, and Thomas Wachendorf discuss whether or not Congress should pro- hibit unilateral United States military intervention. Humorous interpreter Teresa Gill gesticulates a comical excerpt from ALICE IN WONDER- LAND for her oratorical presentation. Zolandz, and James Khoury. Public Speaking Underclassmen wishing to promote the facility of thinking quickly and expressing themselves with precision gain experience through a public speaking club organized this year. Guided by Sister Mary Loreto, l.H.M., students practice on famous speeches and do extensive work with read- ings from the Bible. Since the student body now takes a very active part in the Sacrifice of the Mass, the speakers at- tempt to prepare themselves to assume roles as commentators. Forensics and Debate Students interested in developing the ability to speak clearly, logically, and effectively find a means of expression in forensics. With the assistance of Sister Loretta Margaret, I.H.M., each young Demosthenes learns the value of ideas lucidly presented. This year the de- baters acquired an awareness of international turmoil and methods of diplomacy through a Model United Nation program staged at J. P. Stevens High School. There, delegates rep- resented positions of countries from all parts of the world. At the Grand Tournament in March, Melaine Bieros placed third in girls' extemp, winning the right to compete at the National Finals in Florida. Marguerite Laggini, Bridget Shovlin, Melaine Bieros, Valerie Walters, and Catherine Barr present typical feminine ideas on United States military policy to Mark Mclntyre, Raymond Michael Gross, Edward Olkowski, Deborah Batchelder, Mary Beaumont, Daisy Garcia, Andrea Aloia, and Deborah Beaumont search through periodicals for effective points on current events. 61
