ational Honor Society Objective acknowledgement can be- come a useful tool in a student's personal evaluation of himself. Thus, initiation into an organization maintaining the stand- ards of the National Honor Society stands as a record of significant achievement. Twenty-five juniors merit recognition, constituting the largest membership ever retained by the Immaculata chapter. Traditionally, candidates received gold pins and the symbolic yellow rose at the April ceremony held in the Little Theater. Candles representing the flames of knowl- edge, character, scholarship, leadership, and service were lighted as reminders of the high ideals and heritage to be trans- mitted. Maureen Sloan, Marian Westman, Marguerite Zorzi, Jeanette Vuocolo, Patricia Ferguson, and Carol Kolb practice folk songs for upcoming junior Mass. Marylu Zoltek, Catherine Barr, William Sullivan, Mary Ivers, Patricia Lavelle, and James Wuelfing sort donations for the An Lac Orphanage. wr' W' ,,. .... Vice-President Gerald Dallessio, President John Kelly, Treasurer Ralph Pascale, and Secretary lane Davis get ready to take on an exciting year full of responsibility including initial plans for the senior class trip. Student Council Since its establishment in 1962, Immac- ulata has championed the principles of de- mocracy and equal representation. In order to facilitate organization and co- ordination between students and adminis- tration, the Student Council is elected in September. Each legislator is chosen for qualities of leadership, integrity, and char- acter. During the year the Council as a body exhibits these traits in its contribu- tions to the school. This year under a change of administra- tion the Councilors find opportunities to continue experimental policies. They are able to implement student reforms such as music in the cafeteria and knee socks with the uniform. These leaders also sacrifice free time to serve as hosts at College Night and Up With People. Maintaining order in the halls during school time is another important duty. On their own initiative the representatives instituted Spirit Weeks, a planned senior trip, and the sale of candy in the cafeteria. During the year the office of liaison falls to these capable students. i Bewildered Chester DeStefano looks for help as Margaret Moffitt, Martha O'Brien, Valerie Santelli, and Maureen Brady bombard him with questions concerning the Christmas Dance.
