Art Due to the wide variety of talents and interest represented at Immaeulata, the cur- riculum allows room for creative specializa- tion. Students who hope for careers in art or appreciate it as a Worthwhile hobby enjoy the time devoted to independent or group projects in Room 65. Assignments range in scope from modern poster-making to reproduction of illuminated manuscripts. A most important aspect, as in any class in the fine arts, must be originality, so students are encouraged to de- velop their own ideas. Picturesque confusion of paint-spattered smoeks and easels gives birth to masterpieces of different qualities but equal value. - 3 x Christine Douglas puts finishing touches on her poster announcing the SOUND OF MUSIC. 53

hysical Education True Spartans always participate in physical as well as mental gymnastics. Keeping six hundred sixty dynamos in good condition involves two or three pe- riods a Week for each student. Athletes perform wonders in basketball, volleyball, baseball, and calisthenics. A vigorous training program includes climbing ropes and wrestling for muscle development, and work on the balance beam, parallel bars, and vaulting horse for poise and grace in the gentler sex. William Martin concentrates on a smashing serve to the far right corner of the court. Demonstrating her natural agility, Elizabeth Robinson balances gracefully on one parallel bar.
