After a study of patterns and ideas which all civilizations have in common, juniors isolate the roots of American her- itage and trace the progress of our nation from Columbus, day to the period follow- ing World War II. As responsible citizens and leaders of tomorrow, seniors concen- trate on the workings of this democracy in analysis of current events from grass roots politics through sports to international di- plomacy. English Study of literature begins with an introductory base in four genres of writing: short stories, poetry, non-fiction, and drama. Sophomores and juniors use the knowledge to develop American and English written tradition through the critics and commentators of society. Sen- iors review world literature with a taste of the classics of all nations and all times. Along with the study of the best that man has to offer, Immaculatans make humble contributions to the literary ar- chives in their own creative attempts. Critical reading and writing comprise an important part of today's course as skills necessary in future education, whether formal or informal.
