Cheerleaders, Patricia Mitzak, Karen Tasy, Susanne Lllllllgy, Kathleen Riley, Maryanne Eckert, Mary Ellen Kennedy, Karen Greig, Regina Mills, Susan Fenlon, display well-known gymnastic abilities. Full of vim and vigor, the Varsity and J.V, Cheerleading squads are always on hand to brighten up games and pep ral- lies. Their vibrant shouts and energetic activity have been powerful encourage- ment to the teams through thick and thin. The sight of such enthusiasm can always incite the crowds to full participation. They are a welcome addition to school activities, and this year the human dyna- mos were a driving force behind the Spirit Week campaign. Count on the cheerlead- ers to fan every spark of Spartan spirit to a roaring blaze through singularly power- ful determination. Learning to play football on a high school level can prove to be a difficult ex- perience, as this season's freshman team found out. Although compiling a one win-four loss mark, the scrappy ball- players never lost by more than a touch- down. Tutored by mentor George Sigle, the first Immaculata graduate to be se- lected as coach, the squad had the unen- viable task of mastering draw plays, op- tions, and post patterns. Bridgewater-East ........ 14 Encountering a strong schedule, the gridders showed promise in a 6-0 loss to power-packed Middlesex in their premier contest, and as a follow-up whipped Bay- ley Ellard 12-O. The other three defeats were by six points to Mater Dei, a two point edging by Bernards, and an eight point licking by Bridgewater-East. Fun- damentals being absorbed in their minds, these boys can now go on to the Varsity and Junior Varsity, carrying on the win- ning tradition of the Spartans. Following a block by Kevin Kilduff. signal caller Arnold Slaby cuts inside for a short gain against Middlesex. Spartan frosh are quickly orientated to the toughefaspects of high school football. Coach George Sigle, returning to the sports scene, in- structs his players on a few fundamentals.
