During second quarter action, a Bayley-Ellarzl haifback is stopped short by a host of Imrnaculata defenders. In a third and one spot, quarterback Jim Khoury calls on an alert Tim Murphy to get the first down. Between plays, Line Coach Conti, a new addition to the staff, scrutinizes the Lions' defense. In a definite passing situation, an offensive sweep surprises the blitzing Indians with a draw play. Led by linebacker John Huddleston, Spartans halt the Bishops' fourth quarter drive.

Junior Varsity Football Inspired by the leadership of Coaches Robert Sutton and Victor Dudka, the Jun- ior Varsity Football Team of 1969 faced a tough schedule, emerging with a record of two up and three down with one dead- lock. Spirit was never lacking as the squad continually battled their experi- enced opponents and could easily have escaped with three more wins. The season was highlighted by an open- ing game 18-0 victory over Dunellen, in which a strong defense was detected. After a 6-6 standoff with Bayley-Ellard and a loss to powerful Hillsborough, the future Varsity gridders bounced back with a 20- 2 triumph over Netcong. Two strong ef- forts ended the season, although both ended in upsets-an eight point loss to Bridgewater-East and a four point defeat at the hands of the Green Wave from Del- barton. Keeping in mind that their main goal is to prepare the Young Spartans for next year's eleven, the coaching staff can be generally pleased with the outcome. Coaches Dudka and Sutton go over the starting J.V. lineup before the Dunellen game. On a keeper play, quarterback Ed Cooper runs out the clock in a victory over the Destroyers.
