Sparked by the enthusiasm instilled by Head Coach Pierce Fraunheim and capable assistants Gino Conti, Robert Sutton, and Victor Dudka, the gridders battled through a rough schedule to record the school's first victorious season. The opening skirmish against Dunellen gave evidence that the squad would be ready for the grueling contests ahead when it chalked up a 24-2 decision over the Destroyers. This touched off a four game winning streak. The offensive bar- rage continued as the Spartans rolled up ninety-four points while holding the op- position to thirty-eight. The victims were Bayley-Ellard, who fell, 27-12, Pope John, defeated 24-18, and St. Bernards, trounced by a 39-8 margin. The Spartan drive was spearheaded by the combina- tion of Kevin Murphy's passing, Joseph Moffett's receiving, and brilliant running by Philip Stafford, who climaxed the drive with a nine yard touchdown jaunt. The visitors were held at bay until the closing minutes of the game when they recorded another eight points to put the contest out of reach for a 16-6 triumph. As a result of the team's fine record eight members were chosen to various all- star berths. John Huddleston was also the Monsignor Kelly Award winner and a newcomer to the first team Somerset County defensive unit. 96 it St. Joseph's, the Blue and White rose to the occasion for the 'lGame of the Year to the ground by a Bayley-Ellard defender.
