l'Jump it up sounded from the stands as the whistle blew, starting the tense moments of the Bridgewater-West game. Spartan defense attempted to block a Watchung Hills goal. Joe Kelly's fast footwork knocked the ball free in a successful defensive move. A grueling transition from football season and a schedule including the top schools in the state dared the stamina of the Varsity this year. Starting the season with two losses, the Spartans came through to down both St. Bernards and Dwight Prep by a wide margin. Coach Robert Pietrucha, driving his men hard during practice and game alike, impelled teammates to give their all. At the annual MESSENGER-GAZETTE Christmas Tournament, the squad netted third place as Arthur Chambres merited the most valuable lmmaculatan player award. Racking up four more victories before the season's end, the rigorous efforts of the team proved immeasurably valuable in the experience and confidence gained by each player. Expert rebounding skill helped Art Chambres haul down one of his many caroms.
