Immaculata Varsity Football Team hit the practice field hard this year in an attempt to improve last year's record. Under the guidance of Head Coach Pierce Frauenheim, Robert Pietrucha, Leo Pieretti, and Michael Sandusky, the team took shape and began its third season. After having lost the first two games the Spartans crushed Pope John XXIII by twenty-six points. With spirit now regained, the record was improved to two wins, two losses at the Saint Bernard's game with a score of 15-13. Mater Dei's score of 13 was doubled by the Spartans in a tremendous upset which brought the season to a peak. In the match against Sayreville, the men were hit hard in the first half but came on strong in the second with 28 points. Bridgewater- Raritan East, also in their third season, made a sur- prisingly good effort which saw the Spartans to a 52-O defeat. Morale remained high throughout the year despite the losses suffered. Immaculatan spirit never sporadic, constantly reminded the athletic department of the stu- dent bodyis support. l16 Chet DeStefano listened carefully to the expe- rienced advice of Coach Frauenheim while Mr. Chalupa reviewed crucial plays with the defense. t ef'
