Yes, the language department is always moving to provide a foundation for international cooper- ation and greater understanding among different peoples. While not pros at rattling off muchas palabras , they have been able to give us a deeper respect for a cultural heritage other than our own. The figures seem to go in one ear and out the other. Figuring, guess- ing, hoping and praying are involved with the computa- tion of every problem. We sit and sweat trying to achieve what math is all about. As it is defined according to Daniel Webster, math- ematics is the systematic treatment of magnitude, rela- tionships, figures, and form .
