Going Going journey Busy teachers rushing to school by 8:10 Out from their cars pour teachers women and men. Going Going journey Students of age cruising up and down In all kinds of vehicles buzzing town. Going Going journey Students pulling in to the school parking lot Dreaming of 3:30 with motors still hot. Going Going journey Scott City busses chugging here and there To Cape Vo-Tech, ballgames, and elsewhere. Going Going journey Ah! End of the day and out of the school we pour To cruise the backroads of town once more. Going Going ff-'f . journey End of the day and out troop the teachers Into their cars drop these hassled creatures Going Going journey The glorious weekend! Hoorahl Off we go! Cruising, or partying, or off to a show. Going... Going... journey Traveling here there everywhere nowhere. We love it, except for the high gas fare. Going Going journey Also, a top rock group many of us dig. Their music is first-class and with us rates big , Going Going journey Moving from grade to grade as we gain more knowledge. The immediate goal is a job or college. Going Going journey The most important journey begins when high school ends For in many directions we scatter to the winds. Going Going Gone But the memories forever linger on. Courtesy of judy Bane 1 TABLE OF CONTENTS SPORTS ... 45 A HONORS .. ROYALTY ORGANIZATION! FACULTY . ADVERTISING MEMORIES PEOPLE . . FLASHBACK There were many parents and students disturbed about the new attendance policy. in order to raise the attendance, a new policy was formed, stating that if a student was absent in any one class 10 times or more lexcused or unexcusedy, the student would have to appear before an appeal committee composed of students, faculty, and administrators. The committee would decide whether the students had valid excuses for their absences, and whether they were to receive their grades for the class. Because of the controversy, the policy was discontinued, subject to review. As in every year, a number of fads came and went. A few big fads from 1981-82 were: ruffled blouses, french braids, knickers, and Rubiks cubes. Others include striped shirts, lzod shirts, and boat shoes. One of the fastest come and go fads of this year were little 4X4 stomper trucks. Freedom jam presented the first assembly of the school year. They gave a patriotic assembly during the day and a concert that night. Other assemblies were the Golden Nights, Connie and Carol, and the Scanners. . life, LAL In April of 1982, Mr. Bill Hodges resigned his position as superintendent of the school district. He was the superintendent of our school district for four years. Mr. Bill Heckert, former high school principal, was named by the Board of Education to the position of Superintendent of Schools. On April 6, Mr. Vern Wilson was appointed as Scott City's new police chief. He took the place of Mr. Ralph Hayes who had been the police chief for over twelve years. In November, farmer Wayne Cryts from Puxico defied a court order and removed 31,000 bushels of soybeans from the bankrupt Ristine elevator near New Madrid. He was later arrested and brought to court on charges of illegally removing the grain. The trial came to national attention when the American Agricultural Movement supported Mr. Cryts in his defiance of what is considered to be an unfair bankruptcy law. Several area residents showed their support of Mr. Cryts by the display of yellow ribbons. '82 IN REVIEW Once again terrorism and violence changed world politics. On October 6, 1981, America faced distress caused by the death of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. During a military parade in Cairo, a young lieutenant stepped forward and tossed a grenade into the crowd of spectators seated with President Sadat. The Egyptian president, who with Presidents jimmy Carter of the United States and Menachem Begin of Israel had ended the Israeli-Egyptian war with the Camp David peace talks, was dead. During the course of the year, American military officials were the target of bombings in West Germany and assassinations in France. General james Dozier was kidnapped in December by the Red Brigade in Italy. He was finally released by a rescue attempt on january 28, 1982, the only kidnap victim ever to be rescued alive from this Italian terrorist group. Argentina precipitated an international crisis when they claimed ownership of the Falkland Islands in South America. The claim dated back to the 19th century when the South American Country was liberated from Spanish rule. Great Britian has had control of the Falklands since early in the 1800's. When the U.S.S.R. backed Argentina and the U.S. backed Great Britain, the entire world became involved. A record-setting cold front struck the mid-west United States on Sunday, january 10. Chicago, Illinois, Opp' if wt' 'F New 1113 wavesij r ...,?, in N A fr., hit a new record of -260, the lowest temperature ever recorded in Chicago's history. Scott City students returned to school january 11 in again sub-freezing temperatures. Although the furnaces ran constantly, coats and gloves were worn in hallways and -classrooms to combat the chill. snuck it O Q Q . Q 9 n K f Q a g. Q 0 t. . . The council participated in collecting money for the St. judes Christmas fund, and for the toybox. Due to a controversy this year over the Revenue carry over plan for clubs, the council drew up a new plan to propose to the Board of Education. In response there is a new board policy allowing a club to conduct two money making projects per year and the sophomores may carry over money till the next year in preparation for the prom. The yearbook staff worked to find one lone picture to fill a spot, took at least a million pictures of the same thing hoping one would turn out okay, or searched desperately for a much needed heading. The end result can be proudly called MEMORIES. It is a collage of sayings, pictures, and ideas that can show just exactly how it was way back in 1982. The Annual Staff presents you with a combination scrapbook and photo- graph album. As you leave 1982, they would like for you to save the good friends, cherish the photographs, and preserve the memories. That's all that is left you. THE RAM PAGE WINS TCP HO QRS The Ram Page continued its award-winning tradition by earning Missouri's and Southern Illinois' highest honors in publications contests this year. The staff entered four contests and won 31 overall and six individual awards. In overall judging, the paper was one of 15 in the state receiving the Missouri interscholastic Press Association's All-Missouri rating and one of four statewide named Sweepstakes Award winners by the MIPA. The paper was also awarded the Southern Illinois Scholastic Press Association's coveted Blue Banner Award, as well as its first place award for front page layout. They had some pretty tough opponents, and they just couldn't stand up against them. We just didn't play up to our potential, like we could have, commented Coach Waltrip. Even though their record wasn't the greatest, they always drew a pretty good crowd at their games. They also had a lot of fun. ll ai' Row 1: leannie Moore, janet Householder Row 2: Tammy Burger, Cheri Leible, lill Hill, Manager: Terri Warden Row 3: Missy Diebold, Shannon Anders, Karla Heuring Row 4: Krystal Williams, Lori Runnels, Sheila Modglin The girls B team had a good season this year. They even won more than they lost with an 8-3 record! Some of the freshman girls on the team had played volleyball in junior high, so they already knew how to handle themselves and the ball on the court. This experience really helped to make a good season. Overall we had a really young team this year, but they've got what it takes, so I'm looking forward to an even better season next year, commented Coach Shannon Anders. This year, instead of all four classes having the same theme, each class chose their favorite cartoon character for the idea their float was built upon. The Sophomores received a first place traveling trophy on which 1981 - Class of 84 was the first name engraved for a job well done. gf ' if-sj iT?!ic Class Officers: Whitney Bellis, Presidentf Tony Heisserer, Vice Presidentg Chris Young, Secre- tary, fnot picturedj. frfslmmfn Being a Freshman is like starting all over again, but this class did a very good job of it.
