The Student Council really got going this year with such events as: Iran-Hostage Day, Mock Elections, Class Olympics and enabling the students to wear shorts, lweather permittingl. The student body elected Mark Clayton, a junior, as student council president. This was the first year a junior had ever been elected as president. Newly established career forums were held at various times throughout the year, dealing with such topics as: accounting, nursing, and clerical fields. Nineteen hundred and eighty-one for the United States was one filled with concern and dignity for our country. After 444 days, we awaited the arrival of the 52 hostages on their way home from lran. President Carter was defeated in this year's presidential election, by Governor Ronald Reagan, of California. After three short months in office, an attempted assassination was made on Reagan's life. Not only did the president suffer, but so did Pope John Paul ll. He was shot five times at St. Peter's Cathedral during an early morning mass. FADS OF THE EIGHTIES WUTBHW Popular fads of the year brought back new and exciting features to the eighties. Many I-SC students were seen with: monogram sweaters, lSC sweaters, nike tennis shoes, shorts, designer jeans, curly hair styles, designer pins, kiddie sunglasses, promise rings and rock concert T-shirts. Many rock groups were popular, as disco is dead and rock 'n roll lives on. Such groups were: REO Speedwagon, Journey, AC!DC, Styx and Led Zepplin. Movie goers were seen attending such flicks as: Friday the 13th, Any Which Way You Can, The Empire Strikes Back, Private Benjamin, Little Darlings, Caddyshack, Stir Crazy and Happy Birthday To Me. 4 A SENIOR IS: Someone who thinks graduation spells relief . . . someone who thinks senior skip day is everyday . . . someone who gets to school just in time for second hour . . . someone who collects everything for their senior book . . . someone who has had detention at least once . . . They sponsored a nail guessing contest, in which the winner received a 810.00 prize. They raffled off a hairdryer and a 40-piece socket set, and sold candy bars and Ftawleigh products. They also collected and sold aluminum cans. All the money received from their sales went toward new equipment for the shop area. Several years ago the Industrial Arts Club was stopped because no one seemed interested. From the way it looks this year, the Industrial Arts Club is back on the road again! 23 .', fr' 1 1 4' f 1. el , . A. Row 2: Leslie Stubenrauch, Diane Heuring, Tina Kenkel, Debbie Frye With a staff of three returning people, the 1981 MEMORIES staff started learning the very basics. They had a crash course in selling ads lwhich they enjoyed tremendouslyl and introductions to things like cropping, lay-out, and fitting copy lwhich they didn't like at allll They heard things like Headings are three picas taII This is not the way to spell SchIegel White space goes to the outside and Everything goes two picas apart until they said it in their sleep. And they learned it: some well, some not so well! But the end result is the same - The 1981 MEMORIES. Sometime, somewhere, somebody said, Memories bring back moments that mean the most to us. The Annual Staff has tried to do just that: make this year's yearbook full of classic moments that you won't want to forget. Hopefully, they've accomplished what they set out to do. Twenty years from now, when you drag out the old high school yearbook, you will be able to laugh a lot, cry a little, and remember all the good times.
