Iran talks anew of hostage transfer A TIME OF WAR A TIME CF PEACE. A small country in the Middle East dominated the news this year. All I-SC students, along with the rest of America, became very familiar with such words as: iran, the Shah, Khomeini, hostages, spies, militants, and sanctions. Every daily newspaper, every television newscast, and every radio broadcast contained information about the American hostages being held in Iran. The militants' unconditional demand was for the return of the Shah. Not only did the nation murmur and become restless, but also the students. Particularly when officials began discussing possibilities of a reinstatement of the draft for both men and women. President Carter not only imposed economic sanctions upon iran, in April he also demanded a boycott of the 1980 summer Olympics. At first he was opposed by the athletes but eventually the U.S. Olympic Committee House of Delegates upheld his decision.

Nineteen eighty was no exception. This year brought us: rabbit coats, rock concert T-shirts, hiking boots, wool skirts, cowboy hats, satin pants, straight leg jeans, clogs, blazer jackets, and charm necklaces. Disco was one fad considered to be on its way out. Rock concerts became a popular source of entertainment for I-SC students. STYX, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, and Jethro Tull were just a few. A variety of movies came to the area such as: The jerk, Kramer versus Kramer, American Gigilo, The Muppet Movie, The Rose, Chapter Two, Starting Over, Escape from Alcatraz, The Electric Horseman, Little Darlings, and A Coal Miner's Daughter. Bo Derek became the country's newest sex symbol with her performance in the movie 10'f. Miss Piggy, who made her movie debut in The Muppet Movie , was a close second.
