ln 1980 the St. Pat's Dance was again sponsored by the Sophomores. Pictures of the queen candidates, photographed at the expense of the Sophomore Class, were judged by an impartial panel consisting of the Southeast Missouri State University's Art Department. The multi- urpose room was transformed into a land of helium ballbons, floating shamrocks, and flashing lights. The stage was decorated in traditional green, the focus of attention being a crushed velvet throne over- shadowed by yellow and green streamers flowing from an arbor. As the clock struck ten, junior Karen McElmurry was crowned by retiring queen Heraleen Sprenger, who also presented the new queen with a dozen yellow roses. Leprechauns danced to the music of the Eddie Martin Sound System.
