They were dancing on the bottom of my bed, And on the floor, And everywhere. The moon was looking in and watching them. IA little star peepecl, tool I lay so still I hardly breathed, But inside I was glad And singing all the while, As I watched the brownies dance, After while they went away, fOr, perhaps, I fell asleepl Anyway The brownies werent dancing any more I hope some other night Wlien the moon is shining in fAnd, perhaps, a little star! II A kiss, my darling, Mother says, And kisses me just so. And Daddy says, Captain, salutel' And marching out I go. III I am the Captain of the stairs, I pass among my men, And when I finally reach the head, I turn and speak to them. IV Stand still, my steps, until I come I'll be around at two. And Nursie smiles and says, Come! I have some work to do. V Then after she has left my room, And I am tucked in bed, I close my eyes, pretend to sleep, Until the time I said. tl VI lust when the clock strikes one and two My door is opened wide, And in there walks my aidefdefcamp Wl'1o stands right by my side. VII He holds my shining shield and sword, I-Ie helps me with my suit, And down the hall in great array We go in our high boots. VIII I lead my army strong and brave, We battle all the night, And then we start our homeward way, Wlieri morning first grows light.
