This is the third year that the Student Council has heen functioning in our school. Although it is still in its infancy it has nevertheless proved to he an important, erhcient orgiiiiization. A proof of its efhciency lies in the fact th.1t it is apparently .1 very quiet institution with few prohlems. They are few, it is true, hut that is as it should he Cur school life runs along smoothly and happily. We sincerely hope that in the succeeding years the situation will remain unchanged, Fifty-eight The Span-1 930 llDllRAlllflIlQfMllflIl4E Gf3ill5lllllPa RAMATIC interests at the Illman School were first brought to note during the year of 1927, at which time the lllman Dramatic Club was organiled. Its purpose is that of fostering dramatics and stimulating an interest in them, This purpose has been realized as is shown by the attention it receives and by the large following it has acquired. 5 Since its organization the Dramatic Club has produced annually either three one' act plays or a one threefact play in the Spring of the year. The performance is usually followed by a dance. In the year 1928f1929, with Margaret Robinson as President, Thackeray's The Rose and the Ring was successfully presented to a most apprecif ative audience. This year Margaret Hafer is President, janet Newman, Vice President, Edna Charles, Secretary, Mary Land, Treasurer. At Christmas, Why the Chimes Rang was given at the Philomusian Club. The scenery and properties were made and arf ranged for by the members of the Dramatic Club. Sir james M. Barrie's Quality Street has been selected as the play to be produced and is now under way for prescnf tation in early May. We feel sure the play will provide a most pleasant evenings entertainment and that it will receive the usual splendid support of the student body and the many friends of the school. Barriels 'kQuality Street on May ninth to a most appreciative audience at the Philomusian Club. The per' formance received an excellent write-up in the Town Crier, which is here reproduced. 'kThe Dramatic Club of the Illman School last night revived Sir james M. Barrie's little whimsy, 'Quality Street,' with charm and some distinction before an audience in the auditorium of the Philomusian Club, at 40th and Walnut Streets. The players showed surprising dexterity, both in acting and in speaking their lines, They played the piece in a subdued key, and made of it a thing of shimmering loveliness. Grace M. Stanistreet directed the presentation and her able work was reflected in the acting. Margaret Hafer was excellent as Phoebe Throssel, who takes up school teaching after her lover has gone away to war. She showed a remarkable understanding of her part. Anne Lunsford was Valentine Brown, Phoebe's lover, and enacted the difficult role with ease and grace. Charlotte Belland as Susan Throssel did a remarkable bit of work. Ruth Buck gave a praisefworthy performance in the part of a saucy pupil in Phoebe's school. Brenda Hazzard, Natalie Reisman and Arnold Fleetwood acquitted themselves well in their roles of the 'old maids' of the household. The others of the cast gave commendable characterizations.
